Review: Cavvanbah Beach House, Byron Bay
28 Cavvanbah Street, Byron Bay, NSW, Australia
Cavvanbah Beach House at Byron Bay is a small retreat designed for couples to enjoy lovely accommodation with a touch of luxury and a beach house vibe. A short stroll to the beach and a walk into town, the location is Byron perfect. Rooms are private and spacious and have an outdoor area and the Beach House has a small pool to enjoy for those moments the beach is a step too far. This venue goes into the little black book as a perfect option for a Byron Bay break.
The Room
A spacious luxurious room with king bed, small lounge area, large bathroom with spa bath and a private outdoor area by the pool. Lots of windows for light and a through breeze, and the shutters gave it a nice beachy feel. The mini kitchenette was well stocked with fridge, cutlery, glasses, plates, coffee plunger, kettle and toaster etc
The room was located by the pool and suffered no noise from adjoining rooms.
The bed while big – a king, was too hard for my liking and there were no feather pillows. Having said that the overall experience was so good that I would overlook that to stay again.
The bathroom was large with big spa bath and separate shower with a decent shower head and ample water pressure. Nice amenities provided.
The Location
Great location. Cavvanbah Beach House is a 10 minute walk to Byron’s main street and restaurant strip. It is across the road from a bush track to the beach, a 5 minute stroll. It is also a 10 minute walk to Belongil restaurants.
Cavvanbah Beach House Extras
Complimentary breakfast was a continental affair left for you daily in your room fridge. Ewingsdale plunger coffee, teas, freshly squeezed orange juice accompanied homemade museli, lovely organic yoghurt and fresh fruit. The variety varied daily. Delicious local bread was provided for toast with a variety of condiments. Some days this consisted of leg ham and brie or avocado, other days, smoked salmon & cream cheese with a bagel to toast. I felt very satisfied and healthy! I couldn’t be happier and not once did the thought of bacon and eggs cross my mind!
(A small miracle!!)
The Hosts provided lots of little extras to help you enjoy your stay. DVD’s were available. Beach towels and sunscreen were provided and my personnal favourite – the home cooked muffins – an afternoon delight!
The pool was small but clean, deep and refreshing with sun lounges provided. It added to the delightful tropical feel of the property.
Dining in Byron
There is no restaurant onsite but that is not a problem as Byron centre is a 10 minute walk either along the beach or via a few streets. Our hosts recommended some very good restaurants and bars for us to check out and we did. For a lovely Italian you can’t go past The Italian at The Pacific beside the Byron Bay Hotel. St Elmos is where all the cool kids wine and dine and us too! For a casual less expensive pick me up – Margarita’s offers street food Mexican and Happy Hour cocktails 5-6pm! Yum!
Parking was available at The Beach House but we got the shuttle bus from Ballina airport and walked everwhere with ease.

Our Byron Bay adventure was a short 5 nights and came to a close all too soon. There is so much to like about Byron Bay. Cavvanbah Beach House with its laid back beach house luxury and discreet service, the beautiful Byron environment, whale watching from the beach and the choice of so many places to dine. Remarkably Byron Bay still retains the laid back Australian holiday feel of my childhood. I can’t wait to go back!
