Kims Beach Hideaway is the perfect Sydney escape when you are in need of crystal clear water and golden sand a stones throw from your full serviced beach view bungalow.

A member of the The Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Kims is situated right on the beach about an hour and fifteen from Sydney’s bustling metropolis. Hidden away near The Entrance, the resort is a tropical paradise for beachophiles like myself.

Tropical palms and dense rainforest plants of all shades of green meet you as you make your way along boardwalks to reception, immediately you feel a world away. The use of wood throughout the resort gives a warm charm that enhances the coastal characteristics of the property.

On arrival we were just in time to be shown to our beach bungalow by our lovely welcoming hosts, before the lunch bell sounded ( a hark back to Kims history and the ways of previous owners).

Our beach bungalow was spacious with an amazing view of Toowoon Bay and all of the quality fixtures and fittings you would expect of a Small Luxury Hotel.

The bed was perfect for me – not too hard and not too soft and importantly you could see the beach lying down without effort. There was a lovely lounge area to enjoy a coffee and large balcony for sunset drinks all boasting those glorious sea view’s – I felt at home in no time. The bathroom was spacious with a generous corner spa and shower with double shower head, double sinks and a large heated towel rail.

All meals are held in Kims restaurant built to maximize the sea vista so you don’t feel you are missing a moment of the seascape experience. At lunch and breakfast we sat outside on the balcony and enjoyed the early spring sunshine.  All meals were buffet style with table service for drinks. This is certainly not your average buffet. Overall the quality of the food was excellent. The chefs prepare everything fresh, including freshly baked bread, an enormous range of homemade jams and sauces and there was enough variety for everyone. The range of food was interesting with a real effort not to be a clichéd buffet experience.

Lunch was a hot choice of local catch of the day a white fleshed fish called Sweetlips or Roast lamb – both were excellent but the real star of the lunch was the amazing desert buffet. Wow! There were all my favourites that my Gran used to make and I hadn’t had for ages! Two types of flummery – strawberry and passion fruit and a three milk rum cake were the stand outs from about a choice of ten. Sweet tooth heaven!

The required sampling of so many deserts definitely required an oh so hard stroll along the beach and swim in Toowoon Bay after lunch to make sure there was room for dinner. It being mid August the sea was a tad cool to say the least but very refreshing and made the double shower all that more enjoyable. We were then ready for Pre dinner drinks from the comfort of our balcony watching the sun go down over the sea. Bliss. Heavenly. A balm for the soul.

The bar at Kims comes alive after dark with different entertainers providing live music prior to dinner, canapés were also served and were a very nice treat.

At dinner the fresh seafood was a highlight with exquisitely prepared sashimi as well as king prawns, Sydney rock oysters and balmain bugs (slipper lobsters) for our international guests!. Desert was the biggest Strawberry Pavlova I’ve ever seen and a treat for everyone!

I slept very well that night listening to the waves crashing and the sea sighing content that while this had been an extremely expensive overnight indulgence, this had been a weekend well lived.

We stayed one night stay in a beachview bungalow and enjoyed Lunch, dinner and breakfast at Kims.
